I know it's been a few days since the last update. I hope everyone was enjoying the great game 7 action. Those Blackhawks didn't want to give up without a fight. What a great comeback story that would have been. They almost had it! Now let's see if the Nashville Predators can take down the Canucks in the semifinals. In regular season action, that series went 50/50 and should make for an interesting match-up. This is the first time they have met in the playoffs. The San Jose Sharks have learned they will face the well-rested Detroit Red Wings. San Jose won three of the four meetings between these two teams during the regular season. Last year, in the semifinals the Sharks sent the Wings packing after five games and moved on to the Western Conference finals.
The Eastern Conference match-ups have also been set. After a week or so of waiting, the Washington Capitals have learned they will face the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning finished off the Pittsburgh Penguins last night in a 1-0 game 7 victory. And Boston scored 5 minutes into overtime last night to send Montreal home, and move on to face Philadelphia in the next round.
Semifinal action starts tonight with Vancouver and Nashville facing off at 9:00pm on VS.
Here are the most recent beards pics. Husband's was taken on Tuesday evening. Brother's was from Monday. I'm assuming this will be the last of the brother's with the Penguins going home now. Enjoy! Let the semifinals begin! GO CAPS!

Happy Birthday To Me!
Hey folks! Sorry for such a delay! Things have not been going great with sweet Daisy pup. It's taken a lot of focus and energy away from things like this. I have taken a few pictures from the days I have missed. I will post those today. I hope everyone is still enjoying the great playoff action that is happening around the league!
Saturday was my birthday and I couldn't think of a greater gift than the Caps finishing off the Rangers and becoming the first team in the East to move on to the semifinals! We watched with anticipation during yesterday's Buffalo/Philly game to see if we would find out our next competitor. Not so easy. Philly decided they were not ready to exit the season quite yet and tied the series 3-3 by winning the game in OT. If Buffalo had won, they would have moved on to the next round and faced the Caps in the semifinals. So for now, the Caps remain the only team in the East in the second round.
In the West, the Red Wings and the Predators have claimed their seats into round two action. The Predators finished of the Ducks Sunday evening in a 4-2 regulation win. In more Western Conference action, the Blackhawks took the Canucks into overtime last night in game six and with a goal by rookie Ben Smith, the Blackhawks won the game and force a game 7 on Tuesday night back in Vancouver. The Blackhawks have now won three in a row after going down three losses early. Game 7 will definitely be an interesting one! Tuesday's game is at 10pm. The last Western Conference series is San Jose/LA and San Jose has the chance to wrap is up tonight. They lead the series 3-2.
And now the beard. I must say, when the Caps won on Saturday afternoon, we were very excited, but Brian did seem slightly concerned that the beard was going to go on for at least another two weeks! This will be the longest he has ever grown a beard! I hope you are ready folks! :-) The first pic is from Friday, and the second is from Sunday. Enjoy! Keep the hockey action rockin'! And for those of you who have a soft spot for four-legged furkids, keep Daisy pup in your thoughts. She needs it. Thanks!

And We Have A Winner!
I'm going to make this a bit quick. We've had a lot going on here with one of our pups and it's kind of consuming us at the moment. I think the Caps were trying to one-up the Sharks last night for best come back so far in these playoffs! What a crazy game. Now all they have to do is finish off the Rangers on Saturday afternoon and they'll head into the second round! And Detroit as earned the prize for being the first team to progress to round two after sweeping the Phoenix Coyotes in four games. Congrats to the Red Wings. Now they have a nice little break while they wait to hear who their next opponent will be. Sorry folks, that's all I have in me right now. Here are the beard pics from last night! Husband and Penguins fan brother. I must tend to my furry baby now. GO CAPS!

Wild Wild West!
Good morning fine hockey folks. These playoffs sure are keeping us on our toes aren't they? I must say, I was a bit disappointed yesterday when I saw that there were only going to be two games and that they were both Western conference games. Although, I was looking forward to watching the Chicago/Vancouver game. I've had quite a few guys from Chicago on my fantasy hockey team over the past couple of seasons, so I've sort of adopted them as one of my West coast favorites. I don't dislike Vancouver by any means. Last season I had the Sedin twins on my roster. Now those guys know how to grow a beard! But this year I wanted to see Chicago at least give Vancouver a good run at the series and not be swept out in four. So as I sat there watching last night, you can imagine the smile on my face growing wider as the goals kept piling up on poor Bob Lou, 4-1, 5-1, "are they gonna pull him?" "I don't know, maybe at the period". Start of the third, 6-1, out Bob Lou goes, in comes Cory Schneider. Wow. Schneider only lets up one and the final score is 7-2 and the Hawks have kept their hopes alive for one more game. Didn't see that one coming.
Later last night the Sharks took on the Kings in more West coast action. This game I did not watch. Too late for me! Word on the street is that the Kings took an early 3-0 lead in the first and were up by 4 not long after the second period began. The Sharks' hopes were looking dim. Then the Sharks' woke up and scored 3 to cut the Kings' lead to one. Ryan Smyth answered that goal to take the Kings back on top by two. Ryane Clowe and Joe Pavelski rallied for the Sharks to tie the game before the end of the second period. The third period went scoreless and sent the game into overtime. Three minutes into OT Devin Setoguchi of the Sharks sent one past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick to lead the Sharks to victory. What a game!
Good thing there were only two games last night. That's enough action! Below is a recap of where all the series stand and a schedule of tonight's match-ups.

Washington vs NY Rangers - Washington leads 2-1
Pittsburgh vs Tampa Bay - Pittsburgh leads 2-1

Beard Day 6 - Delayed Post
Howdy hockey peeps! I apologize for not posting last night. I was testing out our new treadmill. :-) There was still NHL playoff action to been seen, and things are really getting interesting! Here's a quick recap:
The Red Wings went into Phoenix and defeated the Coyotes 4-2, and took a 3-0 lead in the series.
Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay 3-2 in a close match-up and now take a 2-1 lead in that series.
The Bruins went into Montreal and beat the Canadiens 4-2. Montreal still leads the series 2-1.
After a goalie controversy in Philly, the Flyers came out on top with a 4-2 win over Buffalo. Philly takes a 2-1 lead in the series.
Tonight there are only two games - Vancouver vs Chicago @ 8pm, Chicago must win or they start their summer vacation early. And San Jose vs LA @ 10:30pm, that series is tied at 1-1.

Enemy Territory (Beard Day 4 & 5)
Here we go! We're coming off a big two game win streak at home, including a shutout. But we're still two big wins away from round two. It's already after 3:00 and our game just started so this will be short, I apologize! Last night we had some pretty rough storms come through the area and I opted not to get online at the time. I did take the nightly beard picture though! Below are day 4 and 5. Enjoy :-) LET'S GO CAPS!

What A Doozie! & Beard Day 2
Seriously?! That's how they wanted to start the series? Talk about a nail biter! No score after two periods and the Rangers were the first to score early in the third period. Luckily Ovechkin got one in on Lundqvist (after a review in Toronto) to tie the game. It would be that goal that sent the game into OT. And a long OT it was. Over 18 minutes into overtime, Arnott set up Semin for the game winning goal, giving the Capitals their first win of the series. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7:30pm in Washington.
To recap the rest of last night's action:
The Red Wings came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Coyotes 4-2. The Red Wings lead the series 1-0.
The Penguins defeated the Lightning 3-0, in one of two shutouts in opening night. The Penguins lead the series 1-0.
The Canucks shutout the defending Cup champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, in a 2-0 victory. The Canucks lead the series 1-0.
The Predators defeated the Ducks, 4-1, in a very important game 1 win. The Predators lead the series 1-0.
Tonight's match-ups are:
Montreal Canadiens vs Boston Bruins @ 7pm
Buffalo Sabres vs Philadelphia Flyers @ 7:30pm
LA Kings vs San Jose Sharks @ 10pm
And as promised, here is the latest beard picture! There is only one tonight. I was informed there would only be a brother picture on Penguin game days.
I hope everyone is enjoying all the great playoff action! Time to go get in all the hockey I can before it's all gone!

And We're Back!
Hello to all and welcome to the 2011 NHL Playoffs! We left way too early last season and we're happy to be back in action. I hope everyone has enjoyed all 82 regular season games and is ready for some intense playoff action! It was certainly an interesting road getting to this point. How many thank you cards do you think Dallas Stars have received from the Blackhawks so far? Talk about really blowing your chances. Yikes!
Tonight kicks off round one with five games.
In the East we have:
#1 Washington Capitals vs #8 NY Rangers @ 7:30pm
#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs #5 Tampa Bay Lightning @ 7pm
And in the West:
#1 Vancouver Canucks vs #8 Chicago Blackhawks @ 10pm
#3 Detroit Red Wings vs #6 Phoenix Coyotes @ 7pm
#4 Anaheim Ducks vs #5 Nashville Predators @ 10:30pm
It's been a great season so far, and I know the playoffs will be just as exciting. If you're growing a beard to support your team please join in on the fun! I plan on posting pictures every night around game time, 7:00pm-ish. The more the merrier! We are obviously Caps fans but we love hockey and don't discriminate. (Even though I can't figure out how my brother is a Penguins fan). If you'd like your picture posted (or your husband's) please email it to me and I will add it to the group. And don't forget to mention which team you/he's growing for! Good luck to all this year! First pics will be posted this evening. GO CAPS!
